Prior to his arrival as Vice President of Government Relations for Lead For America, Tom Branen served at America¹s Service Commissions (ASC), the national association for the 52 governor-appointed state service commissions throughout the nation who fund and support service opportunities such as AmeriCorps and the Volunteer Generation Fund.
Tom was the chief advocate for state service and has worked extensively with Congressional staff, governors’ offices, administration officials, CNCS leadership, and other federal and private sector leaders. After graduating from the University of Denver in 1991,
Tom started his career as a VISTA Volunteer in 1992 serving in Tulsa, OK. As a VISTA, Tom transformed a closed Catholic school located in a public housing community into a community education center. A year later he became part of a team that established the Oklahoma Community Service Commission. He joined the Corporation for National & Community Service in 1994 and during his tenure served in a number of roles, including AmeriCorps Program Officer and Government Relations Officer.
Tom lives in the Washington, DC area with his wife Abbey and their two children.
