Dylan Russell is a co-founder of Lead for America and the executive director of Lead for North Carolina at the UNC School of Government, Lead for America's first state affiliate. Dylan is a lifelong North Carolinian and grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
As executive director he is responsible for coordinating fellow recruitment and selection, fellow training and support, fundraising, local government recruitment and support, and general program administration. Dylan has secured over $2.5 million in private support to advance Lead for North Carolina's mission across the state.
Prior to co-founding Lead for America, Dylan was a development officer, a policy analyst at the NC Department of Public Instruction, a fifth-grade public school teacher, a White House intern during the Obama Administration, and a member of the Board of Trustees at Appalachian State University. Dylan served as president of the Graduate Student Body at UNC and president of the Student Body at Appalachian. Dylan earned a BS in education from Appalachian State University and is a graduate of the UNC Master of Public Administration program.
